June 2008
“This is the day which the Lord has made;
we will rejoice and be glad in it” Psalm 118:24
It has been a hard and a long winter. Spring has sprung and summer is just waiting around the corner. For many people summer signals a time of vacations, travel, and a time to take a break from our fall and winter activities which for some includes church.
I want to suggest another approach to the summer of 2008. We all are aware that the airways will be filled with politics, politics, and politics. So this might be a good time to turn off the television set for a while, and set our sights on other things.
First, try a different worship service. You might discover a different worship style you like and have an opportunity to see who else goes to St. Theodore's. Our worship services with music are on Sunday at 8:00 and 10:30 . We also have a 5:00 p.m. service on Saturday and a 10:00 a.m. service on Wednesday both without music.
Second, get out and discover the area around you. There are many fun local events such as the music concerts at Blowing Springs here in Bella Vista or at the Station in Rogers plus all the Farmer's Markets! Have you been to the cave in Noel? There are many great plays and concerts and other outdoor activities locally for us to enjoy.
Third, bring a friend to church. Summer is a time when we have more visitors than any other time of the year. Come early and show your friend around. Also come every Sunday expecting to meet someone new and welcome that person to our church.
Fourth, if you got out of the habit of going to church every Sunday during the winter months, start a new habit. There are no icy roads to slow you down during the summer.
Fifth, read a chapter a day from a book of the Bible. This year our Sunday Gospel lessons are primarily from Matthew. You might even want to read ahead in anticipation of the lessons for the coming Sunday. They are printed in The Messenger .
Sixth, if you are away from home on a Sunday, go to church and if they have a great idea, write it down and bring it back with you and I'll pass it on to the appropriate committee.
Seventh, enjoy living in the presence of God and look for God in your life each and every day. Each day “is a day the Lord has made. Let us be glad and rejoice in it.”
