Our Sunday School meets at 9:15 a.m. during the school year and is based on the highly-regarded Godly Play curriculum.
Godly Play I: Ages 3 years - Kindergarten
Godly Play II: Grades 1st – 3rd
The result of a lifetime of research and practice by theologian, author and educator Rev. Dr. Jerome Berryman, the Godly Play® method is a curriculum of spiritual practice exploring the mystery of God’s presence in our lives. Godly Play engages what is most exciting about religious education: God inviting us into—and pursuing us in the midst of—Scripture and spiritual experience. Godly Play practice teaches children to listen for God and to make authentic and creative responses to God’s call in our lives.
- Godly Play is a creative, imaginative approach to Christian formation and spiritual guidance.
- Godly Play has a Montessori foundation with 40+ years of research and practice.
- Godly Play values process, openness, discovery, community and relationships.
- Godly Play models the worship life, stories, symbols and rituals of Christian congregations.
- Godly Play allows practitioners to make relevant and personal theological meaning.
- Godly Play nurtures participants to larger dimensions of belief and faith through wondering and play.
Children have an innate sense of the presence of God. The Godly Play approach helps them to explore their faith through story, to gain religious language and to enhance their spiritual experience though wonder and play. Based on Montessori principles and developed using a spiral curriculum, the Godly Play method serves children through early, middle and late childhood and beyond. Come join us!
Please see our Sunday School Coordinator for the proper room for your child. We take a summer break from the end of May through early September.
Children's Chapel is held during the 10:30 a.m. service for all children ages 3 through 8 years old. On the first and fifth Sundays of each month we do not hold Children's Chapel, but instead invite all children and parents to sit in the first few rows on the lefthand side of the sanctuary for Sanctuary Sundays. Sanctuary Sundays offer kids an opportunity to sit where "the action" is happening, observe the service and Eucharistic Ministers, and engage with Fr. Will's sermon.
Kids Activity Bags
As you enter the sanctuary, you will notice a stand filled with bright colored bags next to the double doors going into church. These activity bags are for our youngest members and guests. Inside you will find a clipboard, crayons, coloring sheet, plain paper for drawing or coloring, and pipe cleaners for imaginative play and busy hands. The coloring sheets and paper are welcome to go home after church, but please return the bag (with clip board and colors) to the stand so they may be enjoyed next week.
Stacked directly underneath the activity bags you will find books for young and older children explaining the Eucharist. Please return these books to the box at the base of the stand after the service, so they may be enjoyed again and again.
Child care is provided for ages 0-3 in our Nursery off the Gathering Area.
