Daughters of the King enjoy a special program

Posted by Colleen Whitney on

Daughters of the King met Sunday, January 17th with a wonderful program. We made prayer pots for Lent.  Everyone had a good time and it was fun to see how creative everyone was.

On Ash Wednesday our prayer pots are put in a special place in our homes.
The first Sunday of Lent: A small heart made of construction paper is placed in the pot to remind us of God's love and that we should show our love and be kind to others.
2nd Sunday of Lent:  A small seed is placed in the pot to remind everyone that God's love for us constantly grows and we should show our love and compassion for others.
3rd Sunday: A rubber band is put in the pot; a reminder that God stretches his patience and we should do the same with others, even if it isn't easy.
4th Sunday: A marble is put in the pot to remind us to take turns and share with others in all we do.
5th Sunday:  A band aid is put in the pot to remind us to help others when they are hurt or sad.
Palm Sunday: A piece of palm from our church service is placed in the pot to remind us that Jesus is our Savior and to remember to say our prayers to Him.
Easter Sunday: A small piece of eggshell is placed in the pot to remind us that Jesus will always be with us and is always ready to hear our prayers.

We also recite bible verses each week as well as discuss with our families that are appropriate to the Lenten season.
